FAQs
Frequently Asked Questions
What materials are in cotedge socks?
Cotedge socks really are 100% ALL cotton. There are zero other materials in our socks! The material used is 100% Brazilian virgin cotton, sourced from a brand that is OEKO-TEX® Standard 100 certified and Better Cotton Initiative certified.
How do I pick a size?
Order cotedge socks based on your TRUE shoe size. If you are a half-size, round DOWN when selecting a size. Because these socks are all-cotton, there is less stretch than your typical socks.
How do I measure my TRUE shoe size?
To measure your shoe size, follow the instructions below (measure in inches):
- Step 1: Trace your foot on a piece of paper. Hold the pen straight and perpendicular (90°) to the paper!
- Step 2: Use a ruler to measure from the longest toe-tip to the bottom of the heel in the straight line. Apply this distance (in inches) to the chart below!

Why are cotedge socks so expensive?
Cotedge socks are artisan made on a hand-crank style machine. They are very labor intensive to make. Additionally, the all-cotton yarn used is a high quality material, which adds to the cost.
Are cotedge socks pre-shrunk?
No, cotegde socks are not pre-shrunk. Because cotedge socks have no synthetic materials, they do not stretch as much as typical socks. If you want your cotedge socks to fit more snug, go down a size.
How long do cotedge socks last?
A pair of cotedge socks put through moderate wear should last 6 to 12 months or more. The lifespan of a pair of cotedge socks can vary greatly based on how much you wear them, how much physical activity you put them through, and how you wash/care for them.
How should I wash cotedge socks?
To ensure the longevity and maintain the quality of your cotedge socks, please follow these care instructions:
- Machine Wash:
- DO NOT turn socks inside out before washing.
- Wash on a gentle cycle with cold or lukewarm water.
- Use a mild detergent that is free from bleach or fabric softeners.
- Hand Wash:
- Fill a basin with cold or lukewarm water.
- Add a small amount of mild detergent and mix until dissolved.
- Submerge socks and gently agitate them for a few minutes.
- Rinse thoroughly with cold water to remove all soap.
- Drying:
- Do not wring or twist the socks to remove excess water. Instead, press them gently between towels to absorb moisture.
- Lay socks flat on a clean, dry towel, reshaping them to their original form.
- Avoid hanging socks to dry, as this can cause stretching.
- Air dry socks away from direct sunlight and heat sources.
- If using a machine dryer, place socks in a mesh bag for added protection.
- Ironing:
- If needed, iron on a low setting while the socks are slightly damp.
- Place a cloth between the iron and the socks to prevent direct heat contact.
- Storage:
- Store socks in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight.
- Keep socks folded neatly or rolled to avoid stretching the yarn.
By following these instructions, you can keep your cotedge socks looking and feeling their best for a long time.
What is mercerized cotton?
Mercerized cotton is cotton that has been treated with sodium hydroxide (caustic soda) to improve its properties. The process, known as mercerization, involves soaking the cotton fibers in the solution, then neutralizing them with an acid. This treatment gives mercerized cotton several desirable characteristics:
- Enhanced Luster: Mercerized cotton has a silky sheen and a more vibrant appearance compared to regular cotton.
- Increased Strength: The mercerization process strengthens the cotton fibers, making them more durable and less prone to breaking.
- Improved Dye Affinity: Mercerized cotton absorbs dyes more effectively, resulting in richer and more long-lasting colors.
- Better Moisture Absorption: The treatment increases the cotton's ability to absorb moisture, which can make garments feel cooler and more comfortable.
- Smooth Texture: The fibers become smoother and less prone to fuzziness or pilling, giving the fabric a finer and more luxurious feel.
However, some individuals may have sensitivities to the chemicals used in the mercerization process, although the final product is generally considered safe and non-irritating.
